Barcelona strolled into the final of the Spanish Cup
Wednesday with a late 1-1 draw at troubled Valencia and established a
new club record of 29 matches unbeaten in all competitions.
Barca have not lost since a 2-1 defeat at Sevilla back in October and
under coach Luis Enrique bettered the mark of 28 games which came
during Pep Guardiola's tenure.
The game was something of a formality given that Barca had chalked up
a clearly impregnable 7-0 lead in a first-leg exhibition last week.
In the final - their sixth in eight seasons - Barca are expected to
face Sevilla, who caned Celta Vigo 4-0 in the first leg of the other
semi-final, which will be completed Thursday.
Barca coach Luis Enrique fielded a reserve-packed team while
embattled Valencia boss Gary Neville put out a mix of reserves and
first-teamers.
The match in front of a small crowd of 15,000 lacked tension and
urgency. Valencia's former Spain striker Alvaro Negredo made it 1-0
six minutes before half-time, only for teenager Wilfrid Kaptoum to
level for Barca five minutes from the end, with his first goal for
the Catalans.
