Seeking leadership and direction, the floundering Brooklyn Nets hired Sean Marks as their new general manager, the team announced Thursday. "After an exhaustive vetting process, we are delighted to have Sean as our general manager," Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement. "His experience on the court, in coaching and management gives him a 360-degree view of the job at hand." Marks comes to the Nets after serving the last two seasons as assistant general manager at San Antonio under highly respected, and successful, RC Buford following an 12-year NBA career. A New Zealand native, Marks is excited at the opportunity to turn around the fortunes of the underachieving Nets, whose 14-40 record is tied for the NBA's third-worst heading into the second half of the season. "I am very excited to be named the general manager of the Brooklyn Nets, and to become a member of the vibrant and dynamic organization that represents Brooklyn," Marks said in a statement. "I would like to thank Nets' ownership for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to the challenge of creating a unified culture and building a winning team." Marks replaces Billy King, who along with head coach Lionel Hollins, was fired on January 10. Pundits are already speculating that Marks could bring in Spurs assistant coach Ettore Messina as the Nets new skipper to replace interim head coach Tony Brown. It would seem a logical move because Messina previously coached Russian CSKA Moscow, which used to be owned by the Russian billionaire Prokhorov. | |||||
