Serie A bottom side Verona beat city rivals Chievo 3-1 at home Saturday, rekindling the hope of escaping relegation. Veteran Luca Toni converted his own rebound from a missed spot-kick after being brought down on the half hour and his attacking companion Giampaolo Pazzini finished a counter-attack 12 minutes after the break. Chievo pulled one back when Sergio Pellissier converted a penalty in the 71st as Verona defender Vangelis Moras was dismissed for fouling Roberto Inglese. Chievo's Nicolas Spolli was then sent off 11 minutes from time and Artur Ionita drilled home a late shot to secure victory for the hosts. Verona have now 18 points from 26 games and sit seven points from safety. Chievo are comfortably midtable on 31. Fith-place Inter Milan welcome troubled Sampdoria in late action. | |||||
