The newly elected FIFA president Gianni Infantino has offered sympathy to the families of the victims in a suicide bombing at a football match in Iraq. "I'm shocked and terribly saddened to have learnt about the awful tragedy, which occurred yesterday at a football game in Iskanderiyah, Iraq," Infantino said on the FIFA website Saturday. "Around the world, football unites people. It is a very sad day when people, going to a match together, become the victims of such violence. "On behalf of FIFA and the global football community, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the victims' families." At least 30 people were killed and more than 50 others injured on Friday in a suicide attack that targeted the match in Babel province, according to local police. | |||||
