Mainz miss out on top four after Darmstadt stalemate

Mainz's Alexander Hack (r) and Darmstadt's Tobias Kempe
Ten-man Mainz missed the chance to move into the
Bundesliga top four after being held to a 0-0 home draw by
fourth-bottom Darmstadt on Sunday.
The fifth-placed side had pulled off one of the results of the season
by inflicting Bayern Munich's first home defeat of the campaign on
Wednesday but against Darmstadt they looked somewhat jaded from their
midweek exploits.
They were not helped by Italian Giulio Donati being sent off on 57
minutes after an unnecessary altercation with Sandro Wagner, who
tumbled theatrically.
Mainz sit a point below Schalke and two below Hertha Berlin, who will
look to strengthen their grip on third place when they play at
midtable SV Hamburg in Sunday's late game.
