Sampdoria's defender Lazaros Christodoulopoulos celebrates after scoring
Sampdoria won 3-0 at bottom side Verona Saturday to move
toward mid-table in the Italian Serie A.
Samp striker Fabio Quagliarella had a hand in both early goals from
captain Roberto Soriano and veteran Antonio Cassano on six and 11
minutes.
Soriano tapped in after Quagliarella's effort had been saved and
Pierluigi Gollini deflected the striker's next shot onto the bar
before Cassano's simple flick into the goal.
Quagliarella also crossed for a scoring volley from former Verona
midfielder Lazaros Christodoulopoulos on the half hour and fired wide
on 37 and 43, while home veteran Luca Toni missed from close range on
53.
The Genoa side sit 13th on 31 points from 28 games, eight points
clear of the three-team drop zone. Verona are last on 18, nine points
from safety.
Later action pits second-place Napoli at home to Chievo, seeking
three points to join leaders Juventus at the top. Juve have 61 points
ahead of Sunday's visit to Atalanta.
Roma are third on 56 after beating fourth-place Fiorentina (53) 4-1
Friday.
